Before You Buy – Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint

ghost recon breakpoint

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is the version of the game that came after Wildlands. The primary focus of the game is quite the same, stealth and action.

Like its previous Wildlands, Breakpoint is a tactical shooter game set in an open world environment. It is played from a third-person perspective. You have to take on the role of Lieutenant Colonel Anthony “Nomad” Perryman, a member of the Delta Company. First Battalion, known as “Ghosts”. A fictional elite special operations unit of the United States Army under the Joint Special Operations Command. Aurora is an open world environment that features a variety of landscapes, and these can be used for tactical advantages. For instance, you can slide down rocky terrain and use mud to camouflage themselves. Aurora is larger than the game world featured in Wildlands.

Gameplay – Breakpoint

Ghost Recon® Breakpoint

The game places a larger emphasis on survival than Wildlands. Enemies will be more in number and the game will feature a wider range of enemy types. These enemies will have access to many of the same weapons, skills, and equipment that are available to you. Enemies will react more realistically to your actions and patrols wander the game world searching for the player. These changes were introduced to give you the sense that there were others more powerful than you. Players need to collect different resources in the game’s world. You use them to craft resources such as bandages and other materials for survival.

Story

In Breakpoint’s surprisingly exciting story, you control Nomad, the leader of a Ghost team. He is trapped behind enemy lines on Aurora, A place owned by Skell Tech, a drone manufacturer. The drones have gone missing and there’s been a military team led by a former Ghost. “Cole Walker” and so you and your partners have to figure out what is going on and why.

The thing with Breakpoint is that it comes along with a lot of bugs, sometimes they impede gameplay which is definitely a downside. The world of Breakpoint is hard to travel, which makes for a lot of wasted time. Repetition is constant in the game and you will find it to be not so pleasing. On the contrary, the story of Breakpoint is much better than that of Wildlands. Tactical maneuvering and shooting feel much better as well. Ubisoft’s mechanisms are used wisely when it comes to action. The survival mechanisms and loot were unnecessary, as you barely have reasons to make use of the “survival” mechanics and the loot ratings matter the least.

Overview

Despite whatever the mission levels tell you, every single mission boils down to an extremely repetitive formula: go to a location, clear out the enemies to find a hint of where your target might be, rinse and repeat until you either have to execute or save whoever you’re looking for. Sneaking around and shooting enemies is Ghost Recon’s starters, but starters don’t make a full-course.

Most of the Breakpoint is like playing a downgraded version of something that should be fun, often because it is seen before.

Technical issues in a game can be patched out in the weeks following release. However, Breakpoint was one of the buggiest AAA games in years, and its bugs make it impossible to progress. In Multiple missions, doors failed to open. A few times, an enemy was shot in the head and the bullet passed through as if they were a spirit. The bugs are so prevalent that the developer made a workaround – you can go into the game menu and restart a mission from the last checkpoint, which resets the entire game world. The sad part is the frequency of these bugs that occur many times while in a mission and can be a cause of frustration.

Should you buy it?

If you are a die-hard fan of ghost recon series and want to ignore all the bugs mentioned earlier, go ahead and buy it. If you don’t want to be frustrated because of the number of bugs the game holds and the repetition the game has, just don’t buy it. A lot of things have been derived from Assasins creed and division 2 Ubisoft’s most famous games. When it comes to how unique the game is, there isn’t really much towards its favor.
