Luna – the brand new game streaming service

LUNA cover

Amazon has launched a brand new game streaming service, Luna, at its annual Alexa hardware event on Thursday. Luna will contend directly against Stadia from Google, PlayStation Now from Sony, and xCloud from Microsoft.

Amazon says Luna will add an identical fashion to the opposite existing game streaming services that allow users to stream and play games directly on their TV, computers, and smartphones.

Early access to the service is going to be launched to a small group of individuals within the coming weeks. Usually, there’s a monthly subscription system available but different services follow different models.

Details on the subscription

Amazon Luna won’t offer individual titles during a subscription package. Instead, they might need to purchase different channels found out by game publishers. So here, Amazon books in several game producers, open a dedicated channel at a collective price and users choose which channel they might wish to subscribe to.

Luna cross platform

Initially, there are two channels on the platform. there’s a Luna+ channel that will give subscribers access to many games at $5.99 per month. they have not revealed the entire list of obtainable titles but mentioned that Resident Evil 7, Control, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons are a few of the attractions.

The other channel belongs to Ubisoft, the famous game maker. This channel will offer access to titles like Assassins Creed: Valhalla, Far Cry 6, and Immortals Fenyx Rising. The monthly subscription fee is yet to be revealed.. The business model is analogous to Amazon Channels’ service, where users could prefer to subscribe to a video provider from a good library.

Also, to avoid Apple’s strict rules and avoid Epic Games’ fate, Luna is launching as an internet app on iOS.

Luna: The controller

Amazon also announced its own Alexa-enabled Luna Controller, which can cost $49.99 during the first access period.

As per the Amazon website, the Luna Controller is Alexa-enabled and connects on to the cloud. It features a multiple-antenna design that prioritizes un-interrupted Wi-Fi for lower latency gaming.

Luna controller

“Our tests show a discount in round trip latency while playing Luna Controller via Bluetooth with Cloud Direct vs. Luna Controller, with PC, Fire TV, and Mac reductions of between 17 to 30 milliseconds, ” Amazon reports.

Additionally, the corporate says, because the Luna Controller connects on to cloud servers, players can easily switch between screens — like Fire TV to a mobile — without additional pairing or configuration changes.
